West Steamboat and US 40

As the name suggests, West Steamboat is on the outer edge of town, heading west on Highway 40. Coined ‘the gateway to the Elk River Valley’, it is popular with families and much of the working population. Local brew pubs, family-run eateries and an eclectic mix of shops are drawing more and more people out to the west side.

A plethora of developments offer individual characteristics and charm. Live on the banks of the Yampa River in Riverside or maximize views in the elevated neighborhood of West End Village. Families gravitate to Steamboat II, one of the earliest purpose-built subdivisions, for it’s down to earth feel. In recent years, it has been connected to neighboring Silver Spur by a popular trail system that brings walkers, joggers and cross country skiers out in all seasons. The New Sleeping Giant School is located at the entrance to the Silver Spur Neighborhood.

Heritage Park borders Steamboat Golf Club, dubbed the ‘little course’ by local players. The nine-hole course and adjacent playing fields draw an assortment of sporting events throughout the warmer months. Set at the entrance to Heritage Park is the Mountain Village Montessori Charter School, a tuition-free public charter school serving half-day kindergarten through 6th grade. There is also a preschool for children from age three to kindergarten.

Work/live complexes are dotted along the start of Twenty Mile Road and Elk River Road into Copper Ridge. Several affordable housing developments are currently in construction with future offerings in planning stages.

Outdoor amenities like the Bear River Skate Park, Yampa River Core Trail, parks and open spaces make west Steamboat a popular spot to call home.
