If your calendar for March is looking empty, now is your time to circle some important upcoming dates! Steamboat has plenty to do, including the Bud Light Rocks the Boat Free Concert Series with multiple dates throughout the month and the Steamboat Cup Series for young skiers who want a taste of some friendly competition. Steamboat will also be hosting its monthly Artwalk, as well as the 3rd Annual Crane Migration Celebration!

A Fireside Chat with Buddy Levy

Where? 68 9th Street
When? March 1st

Join Buddy Levy on the first of the month by the fireside at the Off the Beaten Path bookstore to discuss his newest book called “Realm of Ice and Sky: Triumph, Tragedy, and History’s Greatest Arctic Rescue.” Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the fascinating history of Arctic aviation with a passionate and charismatic historian, as well as hear about the monumental failures and the exceptional discoveries that were born from them. Doors for this event open at 6:45 PM and the audience is encouraged to bring their own camp chair to ensure they have a seat. Beer and wine will be available for purchase onsite. Admission for this three-hour chat can be purchased for $10 or $30 with the book bundle.

WinterWonderGrass Colorado

The WinterWonderGrass Festival is wrapping up in Steamboat at the beginning of March — so grab your tickets ASAP! This year’s lineup is fronted by Trampled by Turtles, The California Honeydrops, Leftover Salmon, and more. Supporting acts at the 2025 festival include The Brothers Comatose, Yonder Mountain String Band, and very special guests Lindsay Lou, Kyle Tuttle, and Jon Stickley, among others. The festival is being held at Steamboat Resort’s Upper Knoll Parking Lot, which can be reached by a 10-minute walk from the gondola and The Grand Hotel. Parking is extremely limited, so organizers encourage attendees to use the free Steamboat public bus system if possible. WinterWonderGrass will also have a daily Kids Zone from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM with exciting activities like face painting, hula hooping, and more in a heated tent. This year will have several free shows, including on-mountain jams at Thunderhead Lodge on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Attendees will still be required to have a valid lift ticket to access these shows. Limited 3-day passes, single day tickets and late night events available here.

Sunday Stories

Where? 1289 Lincoln Avenue
When? March 2nd, 16th, 23rd & 30th

Families with little ones can take advantage of the various events held weekly at the Bud Werner Memorial Library. Such events include Sunday Stories in the Children’s Storytime Room at 10:30 AM every Sunday. Children ages 1 to 5 are invited to listen to stories and sing along with fun songs in a group of their peers. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate as well. The storytime includes age-appropriate stories, rhymes, songs, and more to encourage an early love of books and reading. Space is limited and provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. Other recurring events at the library include Creation Station, Babytime, Cuentos en Español, Crafty Tales, Music and Movement, and many more!

Steamboat Cup Series

Where? Howelsen Parkway
When? March 5th, 12th & 19th

The Steamboat Cup Youth Snowsports Fun Competition Series is hosted on Wednesday nights from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM through March 2025. This local youth competitive series is held at Howelsen Hill for any skiers ages 7 to 13 years old in the Steamboat community. Young athletes are encouraged to explore various disciplines through the series, which also introduces them to competition in a fun, low-stress environment. The series includes alpine racing, cross country, ski jumping, and park and mogul skiing. There is no cost to participate but online pre-registration is required. A Howelsen Hill lift ticket or season pass is needed, which can be purchased separately at Howelsen Hill. Registration opens two weeks before each event and closes at 4:00 PM the day before the event. March’s events include the Moguls Competition and Cross Country Fun Race on the 5th, Ski Jumping on the 12th, and ends with the Alpine Duals Race on the 19th. Helmets are required for participants and additional information for each competition can be found on the SSWSC website.

One Book Conversation

Join your friends and neighbors in Steamboat in reading and discussing Eager, which is journalist Ben Goldfarb’s award-winning look into why beavers matter. The book was the winner of the PEN/E.O Wilson Literary Science Writing Award. Each year, the Bud Werner Memorial Library presents a community read in Steamboat, called One Book Steamboat. This winter, the Yampa Valley community was invited to read and talk about an award-winning nonfiction book. In addition, the library is organizing a series of events to enrich the reading experience and kick off a Yampa Valley-wide discussion about resilience within the local environment, which culminates in a live talk by the author on March 18th at the library. If you don’t yet have a copy of the book, the library has ample copies circulating locally through digital, audio, and print formats.

First Friday Artwalk

The monthly First Friday Artwalk is fun for everyone! The self-guided tour will take attendees to various local art galleries, museums, and alternative venues in Steamboat Springs. Businesses will remain open on the first Friday of every month for this favorite event. Many offer changing exhibits each month, so there’s always something new to discover. The art walk is free for the public and is scheduled from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Refreshments and light bites are served at several of the venues. Participating spaces include the Jace Romick Gallery, the Pine Moon Fine Art Gallery, the Riverwalk Collective, the Steamboat Art Museum, the Tread of Pioneers Museum, and many more.

Steamboat Comedy’s Annual Winter Stand-Up Series

When? March 7th & 8th, 21st & 22nd

Steamboat Comedy is returning to Schmiggity’s for another awesome winter season lineup of hilarious comedians from all across the country. March will feature two weekends of laughs, so grab your tickets now and invite some friends out! These are 21 and up events and there is no designated venue parking. Each show lasts for approximately an hour and a half. On March 7th & 8th, comedian Dave Williamson will make his Steamboat Comedy debut. Dave has excelled in nearly every domestic comedy festival and even made it to the finals of “Best of the Fest” in the World Series of Comedy. On March 21st & 22nd, audiences will laugh all evening long with Carmen Lagala. Carmen is masterful at blending dark humor with sharp wit, which makes her a force to be reckoned with onstage. After performing throughout the country for over 15 years, Lagala is fearless in her approach to comedy and can take on anything from current events to personal experiences. The series will wrap up in April, so stay tuned for next month’s comedian!

Bud Light Rocks the Boat Free Concert Series

The Bud Light Rocks the Boat Free Concert Series will be kicking off in March with the Clay Street Unit on the Steamboat Stage. The live show will be held from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM. The series is intended to rock locals into the spring season with free concerts that offer a diverse mix of musical genres, ensuring there’s something for everyone to jam out to. Clay Street Unit is rooted in homegrown southern country and folk, which sometimes branches into a unique bluegrass sound that’s heard throughout the Appalachian hills. The band formed in early 2021 and released their first EP in the fall of ’22. Upcoming performances in the free concert series include Magic Beans on the 15th, Cool Cool Cool on the 22nd, and the Wheeland Brothers on the 29th to close out the month. The series will continue into mid-April with three more musical acts!

Michael Marcagi at Strings

Michael Marcagi is coming to the Strings Music Pavilion this March with support from Ashley Kutcher. Tickets are priced starting at $34.50. Marcagi hails from Cincinnati and the singer’s career has been largely built on grassroots social media support. The folk-rock singer has built a following of listeners who are hungry for earnest storytelling rooted in age-old American musical traditions. The concert is scheduled for 7:00 PM on Sunday and donors of $500 or more to the 2025 Strings Annual Fund are granted early ticket access. Marcagi released his EP titled American Romance in 2024, with catchy tunes such as Scared to Start, In the Light and The Other Side.

3rd Annual Crane Migration Celebration

Where? 1001 13th Street
When? March 14th

The 3rd Annual Crane Migration Celebration is being held at The Depot Art Center in Steamboat Springs. The celebration is scheduled for March 14th from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Attendees will have the chance to welcome the cranes back to Northwest Colorado and help raise funds to support the mission of the Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition. A few of the highlights of the annual celebration include access to the inspiring gallery of Creative Arts Scholarship Contest entries from area high school seniors and a feast of dishes from areas along the migration route. Then, there will be FUNdraising with a paddle raise, a silent auction, and more! The online silent auction will begin on March 1st. Crane attire is optional at the event! Registration is required to attend, with general admission priced at $100.

Luck of the Irish 7K

When? March 15th

Steamboat’s Luck of the Irish 7K will be held at the Steamboat Springs Middle School. Kick off your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations with a family-friendly run/walk. Whether you’re staying committed to your New Year’s resolutions or you just want a fun and active way to spend time with your loved ones, this is a great way to get outside and get your heart rate up. The first 100 sign ups will receive a free long sleeve race shirt and winner awards and raffle prizes will be handed out after the race. All proceeds for this race will go towards the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council and Steamboat Springs Middle School Cross Country and Track and Field Programs. Registration is priced at $30, plus a $2.80 fee. Ages 0 to 17 can participate for a discounted rate of $16.90.

Community Science After Dark

Join together with Yampatika naturalists and biologists from the US Forest Service on this exciting nighttime snowshoe tour. Throughout this unique tour, attendees will make stops to survey boreal owls and search for other interesting specials that call the ski mountain home. Snowshoers will also be trained on the new Steamboat Ski Resort’s Wildlife Watchers iNaturalist project. This hike is perfect for high schoolers and older participants who have an interest in the wildlife around the resort. The March 20th tour will meet at the Thunderhead Lift Parking Area. The tour is scheduled from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM and there is a $20 deposit required that includes snowshoes.
